- Scope and Content‘About this time last year D R Pobjoy kindly spoke to you about me explaining that I was shortly leaving the service and was anxious to obtain employment in Civil Aviation. [12 July 1928] Reply from George Parnall: ‘We have experienced a very lean time indeed in this business so far as production orders for aircraft are concerned, and unless there is a turn in the state of affairs within a reasonable period it is certain that I shall have to disband a large number of staff at Yate Aerodrome’. [16 July 1928] Copy letter from J B Allen; ‘The Air Ministry of course are such impossible folk to deal with and unless one is very fortunate in getting a design accepted and put into production there are only the crumbs left. It might almost be worthwhile to cut out the Service side of aviation and go full out for the commercial designs for it does seem extraordinary that not a single British aircraft constructor has produced a cabin type monoplane with an engine of around 200HP on the lines of American machines.’ [17 July 1928].
