[25th Oct 1927] Copy letter from J B Allen to Colonel E Rees with details of his sporting career: played cricket for Lincolnshire (County), United Services and the Royal Air Force. Played rugby for his school Old Bristolians and Station teams. Played squash at school and Fives for his school. Tennis – only played when there was no cricket available. [19 Oct 1927] Copy letter from J B Allen stating that he had been told he was recommended for a post as Welfare Supervisor [28 Oct 1927] Copy letter to Lieutenant Colonel E Rees from J B Allen stating that he had been appointed to a position in Northwich, Cheshire at a salary of £350 per annum [11 Nov 1927] Copy letter to Major General F J Duncan, ICI, from James Allen ‘ I have recently heard rumours to the effect that the ICI intend taking an active interest in aviation, and certainly an illustration in this months ICI magazine proves that the Directors are alive to the possibilities of flying. If these rumours are correct may I be considered for an appointment in this branch? Until I joined the staff of Brunner, Mond & Company as Welfare Supervisor last November I had been serving in the Royal Air Force’ [3 Apr 1928] Agreement for Service between Imperial Chemical Industries Limited and James Bernard Allen, appointing him Assistant Welfare Manager at Winnington. [4 Apr 1928] Letter from ICI to J B Allen ‘ We note your request and should an aviation scheme mature at any time you may rest assured you will be considered.’ [17 April 1928]
