Report of Francis Giles with regard to the plan for solitary wards for convicts on the tread wheels at the Old House of Correction.

He had planned the changes and obtaining tenders from: Messrs Woodroffe & Berrill £455 Messrs G & W Francis £470 Mr Thomas Brandam £446 He had substituted iron for wood in the plan increasing the expense by £40. he also provided for stone ceiling instead o f brickwork arching increasing the cost by £30. These are included in the tenders. He considered the ironwork essential but not so the stone ceiling. He was yet to obtain the expense of lengthening the tread wheel and the building ought not begin until Spring and he believed the plan required further consideration.
