  • Scope and Content
Letter from RCW Crawley of Warminster submitted as a character reference for the defendant: "Dear Sir, I will gladly do what I can to help you in your present distress. I cannot doubt reasonably that you are the person to whom 2 or 3 months ago I gave an overcoat of mine to repair. You took it to the lodging house and brought it back to me neatly repaired. I remember at the same time asking another person for a job for you though I did not succeed. You remind me in your letter that I advised you to return to your own parish and seek employment where you were known and I cannot doubt as you assure me in your letter that you did so, that you followed the advice I gave you. I cannot remember further than thatI think I was favourably impulsed at the time or I should hardly have ventured to entrust my overcoat to you. I hope that this testimony may be of service to you with the magistrate in disposing them to think, if there is no evidence to the contrary, that it was not habitual to you to do what you have been committed to prison for doing."
