With you, we earnestly hope the War will soon be over, & are all very thankful that so far we are safe - in April we had to RE bombs one in the garden of an empty house next door & the other tow doors away; we lost most of our back windows, all glass from the verandah & had large pieces of kerbstone through the roof in thirty places! We were lucky not to have a direct hit. It is 3am & I am on Fire Watch - there is plenty to do nowadays & I get a lot of accounts and letters attended to during the night.' - Letters from H E Trueman 'war damage tax is a burden to all of us' - Various letters refer to the war damage tax and adjustments between the landlord and tenant due to it. - Account re. properties in Bedford. - Letter from J G W Weston 2 Feb 1942 'We have all had colds here, but am pleased to say we are all better except June who is still in bed, but is much better this morning. We have very deep snow here today, so it is very difficult to get about.' - Bills from A Provins, plumber and Holder & Son re. damage that was done at The Pines and Cottages adjoining 'when the bombs fell.'
