[Frederick William Western, later JP, auctioneer and valuer, grandfather of the donor, was a Methodist lay preacher]. The sermons, approximately 16 in number, commence with a biblical quotation, which is followed by very detailed text. At the end of many of the sermons is a list of the places, presumably mostly Methodist chapels, where the sermon was delivered, with exact dates, usually between 1917 and 1924.
