- Scope and ContentWilliam Francis: he was one of the constable of Biggleswade. On 22 February he had a warrant to bring up Henry May before the magistrates at Biggleswade for not paying a sum charge dot him under an order of Bastardy. As he took Henry May into the magistrates room, May seized him by the cravat and twisted it to try to chock him. Henry May was striking at him and Richard May said to him "Hit him, hit him, don’t hit the wall, I’ll pay all expenses". Richard May also seized him by the cravat and squeezed it and between them they were near chocking him. Richard May said "Damn his eyes choke him". It was a very violent assault and he had been subjected to such an assault whilst in the execution of his duty before.
