    Thomas Bygrave of Biggleswade, labourer - last Friday morning he met James [sic] Whittamore on the Mill Bridge in Biggleswade. Whittamore asked him to buy a spade. He said he would if it was a good one and told him to bring it to him in the evening. Whittamore brought it to his house after he had gone to bed and he agreed to give 2s for it bout would not pay until the following Friday or Saturday. The following Monday he discovered that the spade belonged to the parish of Biggleswade. He went to Mr Birt and asked if he had lost any spades. Birt said he had. The next morning Thomas Birt came to his house and identified the spade as belonging to the parish of Biggleswade. Thomas Birt of Biggleswade, master of the workhouse - having missed some spades belonging to the workhouse he went to the residence of Thomas Bygrave and there found a spade whilst he immediately idenitfied as one fo the spades belonging to the parish. He deposited the spade into the hands of the constable. The value of the spade was 2s 6d.
