Examination of William Watkin - he now lives in the parish of Biggleswade and is chargeable to it. He has lived there 13 years but has never lived with anybody for a twelvemonth nor done any other act to gain a settlement. Esau Watkin - William Watkin is his son. He has been married about 26 years. The year before he was married he lived at the Saracens Head in the town of Newark as boots. He lived there for about 14 months and had 18d a week from his master and a shilling a week from each of the postboys. He took his money weekly. Before that he lived at Tuxford (Notts) at the Red Lion Inn, now called the Duke of Newcastle. He was boots there too and lived there a year and a half. He boarded and lodged in the house and had such perquisites as he could get but no wages nor anything else from his master. There was nothing said as to how long he was to stay nor as to what warning he was to give when he went away.
