    This Deponent Vashni Hyde on his Oath saith as follow: I am horse keeper for Mr Harrison of Bromham Grange and live at Bromham. On Saturday evening 15th April I left my top coat in the stable at the Grange Farm Bromham I also left the swingers, chest thongs and whip all produced in the stable. On Monday 17th I went to the stable about 4.30 in the morning. About 6 o’clock a.m. I missed my coat, the swingers and the whip produced. On Wednesday afternoon from what I heard I looked round and missed the chest thongs and bit. The whip, Swingers, Bit and chest thongs produced are the [ones] I lost. I value the articles I lost at twelve shillings This Deponent James Lane on his Oath saith as follows: I am a farmer and cow keeper and live in 6 Hassett Street Bedford on Monday morning 17th April about 8 o’clock I saw the prisoner in Gwyn St. Bedford prisoner said “Do you want to buy a whip?” I said “No” He offered me the whip and leather produced for four pence. He said he had walked a long way and he wanted to sell the whip to get him a breakfast. I afterwards bought the whip for three pence. He also asked me to buy the swingers produced. On the 19th inst I handed the whip to Police Constable Steer. This Deponent of Joseph Steer on his Oath saith as follows: I am a Police Constable Stationed at Bedford. On Wednesday 19th inst. I received the prisoner from the Luton Police at Luton police Station. The bit produced was handed to him as his property by the Luton Police. I charged the prisoner with stealing a coat, whip, and some brass swingers at Bromham. He made no reply. I brought him to Bedford. In the train he said “I did not have the coat, I had the brasses, the whip and the bit. There was another chap with me called William Bates had the coat, and had it on as he only had a thin jacket on he left me just before we got into Bedford saying he was going either to New Port Pagnell or Biggleswade” I received the whip produced from the witness Lane. The above depositions of Vashni Hyde; James Lane and Joseph Steer were taken and sworn at the Shire Hall at Bedford on the 22nd day of April 1899 before me. Statement of Accused; I do not wish to say anything.
