Sarah Ann Scrivener: she was the daughter of Ann Scrivener of 18 New Street, Luton and they lived opposite the prisoner. On the night of Saturday 14 December her mother’s frying pan was safe in a back yard, hanging on a nail. It had a handle on it then. She missed it on the Monday following. She next saw it at the police station on Wednesday 18 December. It was broken but she was sure it was her mother’s property. It was worth 4d and had a dent in the centre. Inspector George James: he found the frying pan at the prisoner’s house on Sunday 15 December. It was in one of the bundles among other things. The prisoner said it belonged to his brother and came down from London. Statement of the accused: his brother had brought all the things and he knew nothing about them.
