- Scope and ContentCharlotte Woodland: she was the wife of Flowers Woodland and lived in Spring Place, Luton. They lived opposite the prisoner, 3 doors higher up. On Saturday 14 December she had an iron boiler safe in her back yard between 6pm and 7pm. It was the same as now produced and she knew it by the lid. She missed it on Sunday morning about 9am and next saw it on Monday morning at the police station. The boiler was standing out doors and there was an open passage from the street into the yard. Inspector George James: on Sunday 15 December, from information received he went to the prisoner’s house. In searching he found the boiler. The prisoner sent it had been sent from London and belonged to his brother who frequently sent things from London. The boiler was in one of the bundles in the kitchen. Statement of the accused: his brother ad brought all the things and he knew nothing about it.
