- Scope and ContentJeffery Readman: he had lately lost a great many eggs. He had reason to suspect George Beasley of stealing them. Beasley was a blacksmith at Colmworth and worked in a shop which he bought when he came to the place. On 2 May he placed himself in a barn about 4pm and placed 13 hens eggs in a nest under a hovel near the barn. He could see the nest from the barn. He saw the prisoner first go to the back door of the house and then to the stable and then to the hovel. The prisoner took eggs from the nest and put them into his trouser pockets. The prisoner went away and he followed. He caught the prisoner after 200 yards and charged him with having stolen some of the eggs. The prisoner denied the charge but after a time gave up 7 eggs from his pockets. The value of the eggs was 4 pence. Statement of the accused: he had nothing to say.
