    Herbert Cooper: A labourer employed by Mr. John King of Southill. On Saturday 22nd July he was driving plough in Southill. At about 10 am he had his break leaving some food in his basket for dinner about 100 yards from road. About 12pm he found his tin can and food missing from his basket. About 12.30pm police constable Stock showed him the can and food which he identified as his property. Joseph Faulkner: A labourer employed by Mr. John King. On 22nd July about 12pm he was working in one of Mr. King’s fields in Southill when he saw the prisoner stooping down against a tree where Mr. Cooper had placed his food. He saw the prisoner get up and run away with a tin can. He ran after the prisoner and found him lying in some bushes. His brother came up and handed the prisoner to police constable Stock. About 5 yards from where the prisoner lay he found the tin can and food. Thomas Stock: A police constable stationed at Southill. At about 12.30pm on 22nd July 1893 he received the prisoner into custody and from information received he charged the prisoner with stealing a tin can and some food. The prisoner replied that he had nothing to say. James Ridgwell: Nothing to say.
