    Recites Mortgage (term of 500 years) - £210 - 28 April 1713 William Seeling to Simon Lucas the elder of Hitchin Messuage occupied Francis Whitbread (formerly occupied James Weedon) Breadmore Close, 4 acres 1rood meadow in Ham Mead, Robert Ensam alias Burrow East, H. Coleman West 1 acre 8 perches at Ashenwell Hill in a field next Meppersall 2 acres 30 perches at Clayhouse Hill (alias Claushill) in the Home Field formerly William Peacock's. 4 acres arable formerly widow Sam's 4 acres arable 2 sellions or leys of sward (1/2 acre) in the Nether crofts, formerly J. Sheppard's 4 1/2 acres arable, formerly William Sheppard's all lately purchased by William Seeling of Simon Lucas and J. Ensam alias Burrow. Assignment of Mortgage - 15 March 1714/5 Elizabeth Carter J. Dundale and wife Martha (daughters & executrixes of Simon Lucas) to Heylock Kingsley and William Kingsley, in trust for Elizabeth Carter. Seeling was indebted for £350 on mortgage of copyhold as well as £200 mortgage of above freehold. The whole property is now made security for the total £550. Further Charge : £550 + £200 - 10 July 1723 reciting that following copyhold as well as above freehold had been mortgaged : 56 acres arable 3 Church Closes, 4acres, in Upton End. Repayment of £100 - 22 July 1729 Will of William Seeling, leaving property to daughters - 30 May 1730 Wilshere and Cox are now entitled to the equity of redemption. £737-15-0 is paid to 2. in discharge of the mortgage, and £200 is paid to 1. The freehold formerly occupied Francis Whitbread (as above), now late of Thomas Simkins, is conveyed to Reeves (4.), and there is covenant to surrender the copyhold (the above 56acres and 3 Church Closes, held of the Manor of Shillington, together with 2 acres held of the Manor of Shillington Rectory) 21 & 22 Aug. 1766 Endorsed : The purchased money belonged to Philip Burton of Lincoln's Inn and William Reeves is his trustee 19 Jan. 1768 The purchase money is now become the proper money of George Sealey of Ware, Herts, ironmonger, and William Reeves holds in trust for him. George Sealey is acting as trustee for J. Boteler Esq. of Watton Woodhall, Herts. 14 June 1768 Quitclaim : Philip Boteler to J. Malet Recites case in Exchequer Court, 13 May 1776-15 May 1777; The equity of redemption passed to J. Malet of Hertford, gent., who in 1777 borrowed £850 of J. Boteler, Esq., aged 90, to repay the mortgage, but did not make out a deed of mortgage to him : instead, so he claimed, he deposited the deeds with Boteler, and then were burned soon afterwards in a fire at Watton Woodhall. Old J. Boteler conveyed his personal effects to his grandson Philip Boteler in July 1773, and died soon afterwards. Philip Boteler could not persuade Malet to make out a regular mortgage, and sought help in Exchequer, which found that the principal and interest and costs due amounted to £1088-15-1. Malet paid the full sum of £1106-4-3 on 23 Jan. 1778 2 June 1782
