    -- appointing wife Augusta and friends James Stokes Esquire, solicitor, Rotherhithe, and Albert Wight Esquire, Braboeuf, Guildford, as executors and trustees. -- to wife all household goods and personal effects -- real estate and residue of personal estate to trustees to sell, and pay wife a legacy of £150, and invest residue in public stocks and pay the interest to wife during her widowhood, she to maintain the children till of age or married, remainder in trust for all the children, remainder to Lieutenant Walter Howard of 80th Regiment of Foot. Witnesses: John Pringle, Sherriff, Bt. Major late 35th regiment, Charles Basil Gibbons Bacon,Captain. 16 August 1864. Codicil: Edward Howard now honorary deputy inspector-general of hospitals, Bedford. -- wife to have all silver-plated and other effects -- trustees not to be compelled to sell real estate -- maintenance and sums advanced to two sons Edward Louis Bayley Howard and Arthur Bertram Maclagan Howard to be deducted from their legacies -- wife to have the house built by the testator for life Witnesses: Sam. Fry, Bedford, gentleman, Elizabeth Geary, servant 10 October 1877. Second codicil: testator now residing at 9, Westbourne Villas, Teignmouth, Devon. -- share of sons to be £235 less each than of daughter Lucy Sophia Beatrice Howard, and no further deductions from legacy to be made. -- revoking bequest to wife of personal effects etc. -- to trustees as above for benefit of wife during her widowhood, remainder to daughter Lucy remainder to trustees as part of residual estate. -- wife to have house at Bromhan Road, Bedford, only during widowhood Witnesses: James Metcalfe, vicar, West Teignmouth, Arthur France Hutchings, agent for missions to seamen, Teignmouth 23 June 1879. proved. 31 July 1885
