Visit of Arrowsmith to Marlow; ‘Paul Jones’ would have found the house to resemble his at Leytonstone; ‘John’ means to equal Arrowsmith’s success at fishing in the Ouse; harvest promising but price of labourers is enormous – ‘what we used to pay five shillings an acre for reaping is now fifteen shillings to a guinea’ - Pitt’s fault for causing the death of so many in the war, ‘and making those few that remain at home soldiers’
