- Scope and ContentThis Deponent Clara Burgonie Spinster on her Oath saith as follows:- I am a Hat trimmer and live at St Albans and take in lodgers. On the 2nd December 1891 about 5.30 p.m. the prisoner called at my house and asked for lodgings – I asked him in, he said “I have got work at the London and North Western Railway as Clerk – he arranged to board and lodge at my house – he lodged there that night and about 8.25 the following morning 3rd December when going out he ordered dinner at 12.30 p.m. but never returned – I went up to his bedroom and noticed several things were out of place and that a writing desk had been unlocked and 1 gold dress ring, 1 wedding ring, silver dress ring, 1 gold locket were missing - 6/71/2 had been taken from the desk and a silver brooch and common necklet were missing from a box on the drawers – On Saturday 12th December 1891 I came to the Police Station at Biggleswade I there saw the articles now produced which I identify as my property and the same I missed from my bedroom I also identify the prisoner as the man who came to lodge at my house. This Deponent Charles Cheshire upon his oath saith:- I am a Police Sergeant stationed at Shefford Bedfordshire – On the 9th December I arrested the prisoner at Shefford on another charge and on searching the prisoner I found one gold dress ring – one silver dress ring – one silver brooch – one gold wedding ring – one gold locket – and on the 16th Dec. I charged him with stealing the articles I now produce at St Albans on the 2nd December 1891 the property of Clara Burgonie – he replied “Oh yes” [Cross Examined] You said Oh Yes
