Magistrates: Thomas Charles Higgins, Charles Moore, George P Livius, Thomas Abbott Green, C C Beaty Pownall, Boteler C Smith, C H Smith. 41 prisoners in custody. George Mayes, the cleaner of the gaol petitions for an increase in salary. We recommend that he receive 18s per week. We visited the cells and are much concerned at witnessing so many prisoners together, boys and men, the hardened in crime and those who are less so.
