- Scope and ContentCharles Baines of Sandy, carpenter – he had 10 tame rabbits last week which he kept on his father’s premises at Sandy. On Monday morning 9 of them were gone. The two live white rabbits now produced are two of those he lost. He cannot swear to the dead ones which are brown, but believes they are his. He had 5 brown ones. They are worth a shilling each. He heard Charles Underwood say that Benjamin Gilbert was there and took them out of the sack while he held it. [Further information] The rabbits were in 2 hutches in a pigsty in his father’s farm yard when they were stolen. The sty opens into the yard which is entirely surrounded on all sides by buildings. The house is at one end of the yard. William Winepress of Biggleswade, gardener – he was at Richardson’s public house at Caldecott yesterday in the afternoon. He saw the 2 young men Blaine and Underwood come in with another young man. Blaine had a basket in his hand and two live rabbits and offered them for sale for 20d. He bought the two for 1 shilling. John Blaine – Benjamin Gilbert brought them to him in the field Charles Underwood – they were all three there together. Blaine laid hold of the rabbits against Mr Baines saw pits.
