  • Scope and Content
Magistrates:Frederick C G Passy, C C Beaty Pownall. 36 prisoners in custody. All males. One prisoner in the infirmary. One debtor confined to his room. Several on the sick list, no cases of very great consequence - principally venereal. A circular from Messrs Capper & Gray was received and read, offering to supply cocoa as an article of diet for the prisoners, stating that it is used extensively in the prisons at Millbank, Pentonville, Parkhurst etc . The surgeon thinks that the consideration of the introduction of this article of food under certain circumstances as a substitute for ruel were worthy of the attention of the Visiting Justices. The Governor ordered to make enquiries as to the price and other particulars. In consequence of the representation made by the Governor and surgeon relative to the case of William Dyer a debtor who is confined to his bedroom (and also of George White a prisoner who is in the Gaol infirmary) ordered that the Governor provides a daily nurse at the expence not exceeding 1s a day for one week.
