  • Scope and Content
Magistrates: George P Livius, John Harvey, C C Beaty Pownall. 14 prisoners in custody. The religious duties have been performed by the Rev Henry Pearse - the Archdeacon Rev Henry Tattam and the Rev H Burdett Worthington - the Gaoler has occasionally read the prayers. The order for the removal of the [convicts] has been received - but their removal is delayed on account of the Surgeon not being able to give the certificate required on account of the ill health of one of them viz Fanny Church and as the Assizes are so near it is thought prudent to defer the removal of the other two until lthe Assize is over. John Deacon and James Studman, two prisoners in Custody have been remanded from the 30th June to the 10th July and again from the 10th July to the 17 July on a charge of stealing a quantity of straw plait, the Assizes taking place on the 15th for the trial of the prisoners, They were committed from Luton by Rev Dr Bland and Rev W McDouall. The tender for bread from George Clifton is accepted. One case of illness - Fanny Church.
