    Thomas Poole: he was a bricklayer living in Steventon and on 14 April he was at work at Mr Isaac Keech’s. He had a bricklayer’s line with his property. After a days work he struck in a nail across Mr Keech’s yard. Next day the line had gone. He did not see the line again until 5 July. PC George Mardlin: he went to the house of the accused on 5 July. He searched the barn and found lines lying across a ledge. He asked the accused if they were his. He had to thrown the accused down and take the lines from him. Statement of the accused: he was innocent of the charges against him.
