- Scope and ContentApprenticeship Indenture: Henry Charles Philpot (son of George Philpot of Milton Bryan, carpenter) of his own free will and with the consent of his said father, testified by his executing this indenture doth put himself apprentice to Alfred Joseph Pitkin of Dunstable, butcher. From the day of the date hereof for the term of three years. Alfred Joseph Pitkin in consideration of such faithful service and of the sum of twenty pounds to him paid by the said George Philpot in manner following ten pounds upon the execution hereof and the sum of ten pounds other part thereof on the 13th November 1871 if the said apprentice shall then be living and in the service of the said Alfred Joseph Pitkin. His said apprentice in the art or trade of a butcher which he useth by the best means that he can shall teach and instruct or cause to be taught and instructed finding unto the said Apprentice clothes to the value of two pounds ten shillings, sufficient meat drink tools and during the said term. And the said George Philpot hereby agrees to find and provide for his said son clothes except as aforesaid, washing and all other necessaries during the said term and medicine, nursing and surgery in case of sickness or accident. In witness whereof the parties above named to this indenture have put their hands and seals the 13th May 1870. Signed; Henry Charles Philpot; George Philpot; Alfred Joseph Pitkin. Witnessed by Henry Thomas Hall, Clerk to Mr Green, Woburn. Receipt on dorse for £10 signed by Alfred Joseph Pitkin witnessed by Henry Thomas Hall.
