- Scope and ContentApprenticeship Indenture: John Taylor with consent of his mother Catherine Taylor to James Drover Barnett and Alexander Buckler of 89 Chancery Lane, City of London, shorthand writers. Indenture: John Taylor with the consent of his mother Catherine Taylor of 29 Cambridge Road, Islington, Middlesex, widow (testified by her being a party to and executing these presents) doth put himself apprentice to the said James Drover Barnett and Alexander Buckler of 89 Chancery Lane, City of London, shorthand writers and carrying on that profession or employment in co partnership under the firm of Barnett & Buckler as an articled pupil to the said James Drover Barnett and Alexander Buckler to be instructed in the profession or employment of a short hand writer from 1st February last past for the term of five years. James Drover Barnett and Alexander Buckler in consideration of the sum of ninety nine pounds and ten shillings to be paid to them by Catherine Taylor immediately on the execution of these presents do accept and take the said John Taylor to be their articled pupil in the said profession or employment of a short hand writer. And will to the best of their power skill and knowledge during the said term teach the said John Taylor the said profession and everything relating thereunto. Catherine Taylor hereby covenants with James Drover Barnett and Alexander Buckler that he the said John Taylor shall faithfully serve his said James Drover Barnett and Alexander Buckler in the said profession of a short hand writer as an articled pupil and shall not during the said term absent himself from their service without the consent of James Drover Barnett and Alexander Buckler and shall diligently attend to the profession and concerns of his said Masters doing no damage or injury to them or knowingly suffer the same to be done by others without acquainting his said Masters thereof but shall in all respects demean himself as an honest and faithful articled pupil in such profession or employment ought to do. Catherine Taylor covenants that during the said term she will find and provide her said son with suitable board, lodging, clothing and all other necessaries. And for the true performance of all and several covenants hereinbefore contained each of the parties bindeth himself and herself to the other by these presents.
