Apprenticeship Indenture for Joseph Sinfield to William Hensman & William Hensman the Younger both of Woburn, agricultural implement makers and fitters. Indenture: Joseph Sinfield son of Edward Sinfield of Woburn, labourer (with the consent of his said father) doth himself apprentice to the said William Hensman & William Hensman the Younger both of Woburn, agricultural implement makers fitters and co-partners to learn their art and with them in the manner of an apprentice to serve for the term of six years from the eleventh day of July now last past or until he shall attain the age of twenty one years. During which term the said apprentice shall faithfully serve his said Masters in all lawful businesses according to his power skill and ability and behave himself towards his said Masters honestly orderly and obediently in all things. William Hensman and William Hensman the younger in consideration of the services of the said Joseph Sinfield…do hereby accept and take the said Joseph Sinfield as their apprentice and shall and will teach and instruct or cause to be taught & instructed the said apprentice the trade or business of an agricultural implement maker in the wood department thereof and of fitting the ironwork thereto. William Hensman and William Hensman the younger hereby covenant and agree to allow and pay to the said apprentice in lieu and full satisfaction of the board and lodging, clothes washing, medicine and all other necessaries during the said term the wages or salary following – four shillings weekly the first day of January 1852 to the 11th July 1853 (when he will commence the eighteenth year of his age) five shillings weekly from that time until 11th July 1854, six shillings per week from thence until 11th July 1855, seven shillings per week thenceforth until the 11th July 1856 and nine shillings per week thenceforth during the sixth and last year of the said term. Edward Sinfield doth hereby agree that the said apprentice shall and will take the wages in lieu of board, lodging, clothes, washing , medicine and all other necessaries. If it shall happen that Joseph Sinfield shall at any time during the said term from illness or on any account whatsoever be absent from the business and employment of the said William Hensman and William Hensman the younger…then such of the same weekly payments…shall not be payable. Either of the parties bindeth themselves to the other by these presents. In witness whereof the said parties to these presents have hereunto set their hands and seals the 5th November 1851.
