- Scope and ContentApprenticeship Indenture for Joseph Hart to Joseph Briden of Toddington, tailor. Joseph Hart, aged 21 years and upwards, son of William Hart of Toddington, labourer doth put and bound himself apprentice to the said Joseph Briden of Toddington, tailor to be taught and instructed in the trades of businesses of a tailor from the day of the date hereof for the term of three years. Joseph Hart shall and will during all the said term well and truly serve the said Joseph Briden as an apprentice in the trade or business of a tailor diligently attending to the business or concerns of his Master doing no damage or injury to his said Master nor knowingly suffering the same to be done without acquainting his said Master thereof but shall and will in all respects acquit and demean himself as an honest and faithful apprentice ought to do. Joseph Briden in consideration of the sum of five pounds and five shillings to be paid to him by the said Joseph Hart at or before the sealing of these presents (the receipt of whereof is hereby acknowledged)and in consideration also of the services to be done and performed by him the said Joseph Hart for him the said Joseph Briden according to the best of his power skill and knowledge shall…teach and instruct the said Joseph Hart in the apprentice in the art or business of a tailor, which he now useth and will allow and pay to the said apprentice in lieu and satisfaction for his meat drink washing lodging clothes and other necessaries the wages or sums of money following: During the second year of the said term the sum of three shillings weekly and every week and during the third and last year the sum of four shillings weekly and every week. Joseph Hart in consideration of the premises doth hereby agree to find and provide for himself during all the said term sufficient meat drink lodging washing clothes and all other necessaries and the performance of all and every covenant and agreement hereinbefore contained either of the said parties bindeth himself to the other by these premises. In Witness whereof the said parties to these presents have hereunto set their hands and seals the twenty ninth day of February in the sixth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord William the Fourth by the Grace of God of the united Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland King Defender of the Faith and in the Year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty six.
