Deposition - Thomas Woodward of Caldecot in Northill charged with stealing a quantity of threshed wheat (value 9d), the property of Jeremiah Bryant

Harry Inskip, bailiff to Jeremiah Bryant of Caldecot in the parish of Northill, innkeeper – on 24 March about 6pm he met Thomas Woodward, one of the threshers employed in Mr Bryant’s barn with a small covered basket in his hand. He suspected there might something in it that was not his own and after speaking a word or two to him tipped up the lid and found it to be full of wheat. He took the basket from him. He has compared it with Mr Bryant’s wheat in that barn. When he met Woodward he was on the road from Mr Bryant’s to his own homes. His house is about 1 ¼ miles from the barn where he had been threshing, along the North Road.
