- Scope and ContentApprenticeship Indenture: Charles Dawson son of John Dawson of Hockliffe, carpenter, apprentice to Thomas Read of Hockliffe, butcher. From the 25 December last past for the term of four years. Thomas Read in consideration of the sum of twenty pounds to be paid to him by the said John Dawson at or before the sealing and delivery hereof the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge His said apprentice in the art of butcher which he useth by the best means that he can shall teach and instruct or cause to be taught and instructed finding unto the said apprentice sufficient meat drink and lodging during the said term. John Dawson doth hereby agree to find and provide sufficient clothes washing and all other necessaries during all the said term for his said son. Signed: Charles Dawson; John Dawson; Thomas Read. Witnesses: C R Day; William Harland, clerks to Mr Day, Attorney at Law of Woburn. Receipt on dorse for £20 signed by Thomas Read witnessed by C R Day and William Harland, clerks to Mr Day, Attorney at Law.
