    Apprenticeship Indenture: William Ashby son of Robert Ashby of Eversholt, labourer by and with the consent of his said father doth put himself apprentice to Joseph Bryant of Eversholt, shoemaker. To serve from the first day of January now last past for a term of seven years or until the apprentice shall arrive at the age of twenty one years.. The said Joseph Bryant for and in consideration of the sum of Twenty pounds of lawful money current in England to him in hand paid by the said Robert Ashby on or before the execution of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged doth covenant and agree with the said Robert Ashby his executors and administrators his said apprentice in the art of a shoemaker and cordwainer which he useth by the best means that he can shall teach and instruct or cause to be taught and instructed finding unto the said apprentice sufficient meat drink and washing in sickness and in health and shoes and aprons and mending of shirts and stockings during the said term and also lodging during the last four years of the said term. And the said Robert Ashby for himself and his executors and administrators doth hereby covenant and agree to and with the said Joseph Bryant his executors and administrators to find for the said apprentice sufficient medical aid and pay all apothecaries surgeons and doctors bills and all other clothes and clothes necessaries during the said term. 15 February 1812. Signed and sealed by William Ashby; the mark of Robert Ashby and Joseph Bryant Witness to the mark of Robert Ashby: Thomas Day, C R Day. On dorse: Receipt for £20 signed by Joseph Bryant. Witnessed by Thomas Day, Attorney at Law, Woburn and C R Day his clerk. On dorse: We do hereby agree to cancel this Indenture and the same is accordingly cancelled as witness our hands this tenth day of October 1814. Witnessed by Thomas Day, Attorney at Law, Woburn and C R Day his clerk. With separate agreement outlining terms signed by Robert Ashby 27 January 1812.
