William Kite said: I am a Police Constable of the Borough. On July 6th at 10.30pm I was in the Dunstable Road, I had a prisoner Edward Wilson in custody he was very violent. I was waiting for police assistance. Stuart Anthony was there. He interfered and told me to let him alone. I said “Well Mr Anthony I call upon you in the name of the Queen to assist me” He said “I shan’t and you can do as you like” I called on him twice more, he made the reply “I shan’t”. A young man named Smith and another constable then assisted me and we got Wilson away. Geoffrey Rollings said: I live at 53 Inkerman Street and am an insurance agent. I was going home about 10.30 at night and saw Wilson in Kite’s custody. I saw Anthony there, Wilson was very violent, I heard Kite call on Anthony “In the mane of the Queen I ask you to aid and assist.” He said, “Do your dirty work yourself.” Statement of the accused: I wish to say nothing.
