John Jeans: warehouseman of Luton in the employment of Mr. A. W. Luisell. On 28th March at about 8pm he locked the drawer which had about 4 shillings in silvers and coppers. On 29th March he examined the drawer to find that it had been forced open and was missing the money. He examined the drawer and found chisel marks on it. Daniel Burgess: warehouseman of Luton in the employment of Mr. A. W. Luisell. On 28th March at about 8.10pm he locked up the warehouse and locked the gate which leads to Bond Street. He saw the prisoner at work in Mr. Arnold’s yard whose premises open into Mr. Luisell’s yard. Frederick Charles Rayment: assistant porter to Mr. Luisell. On 29th March at about 8.30am he opened the warehouse. The back door was unlocked and inside he saw that 4 bowls for holding money were on the counter rather than in the till. William Chamberlain: detective sergeant of Luton. On 29th March at about 9.15am he went to Mr. Luisell’s warehouse. He found the back door had been tampered with and the cash drawer had been forced open. He found the marks on the drawer. When he arrested the prisoner on the 6th April he found in his possession the chisel. He examined the chisel and found that it corresponded with the marks on the cash drawer. A punch was found on the counter and appeared to have been used to open the drawer. He charged the prisoner who said that he hadn’t been in the warehouse. Bertie Horwood: Made no answer
