    Frederick Evans: a cashier of Luton. He locked up and left Mr Hucklesby’s warehouse at 8.45pm on 28th March. On 29th March he examined the cash drawer which had been forced open. He was missing the sum of 5 shillings in coppers from the drawer and a key. Albert Shaw: a porter to Mr. Hucklesby. It was his duty to open the warehouse in the morning. On 29th March at 8.30am he went to the warehouse and found the outer door locked in Bond Street. Inside he found the cash drawer forced open within the counting house. He made a statement to Evans. William Chamberlain: detective sergeant of Luton. On 29th March about 9am he went to Mr. Hucklesby’s warehouse in Bond Street. He saw the cash drawer had been forced open in the counting house. He produced a small key. On 6th April he arrested the prisoner on another charge, where he found the said key in the prisoner’s pocket. The prisoner said that the key belonged to the desk where he worked. He tried the key in the desk lock but it did not fit that lock. The key did fit the lock on the desk in Mr. Hucklesby’s counting house. He charged the prisoner with stealing the money from the cash drawer. Bertie Horwood: Made no answer
