This Deponent of Mary Ann Goodman. On her Oath saith as follows: I am the wife of William Goodman of Marston in this County. Labourer. My husband is a customer of the prosecutrix. We have not had a regular bread book. The prisoner has been in the habit of bringing our bread and receiving our cash for it. On March 25th last I paid the prisoner on account of Mrs Chamberlains bill the sum of 10/- I didn’t see the prisoner make any entry. On May 6th last I paid him 10/10d on Mrs Chamberlains account. On June 19th I paid him [on] Mrs Chamberlains account a further ten shillings and tenpence. Deponent of Francis Chamberlain. I live at Kempston. The prisoner has been in my employment as a baker’s assistant since February 1888. It was his duty to deliver bread for me and receive cash from the customers. He was supplied with a delivery book in which it was his duty to enter bread delivered and cash received. The book marked “13” is the book used by the prisoner from February to June 1890 and in which he should have entered all cash received. William Goodman of Marston is customer of mine. I did not in the months of March, May or June in the year 1890 receive any monies from the prisoner on account of William Goodman. It was the prisoners’ duty each night to account for cash received.
