- Scope and ContentJames Brown of Stotfold, labourer – he is a shepherd. On Saturday 10 June Fisher was helping him to repair his cottage and he noticed Fisher had on a pair of his boots. He asked Fisher what business he had with them. Fisher said he had borrowed them while his own shoes were being mended and would return them by the Wednesday. He said Fisher must do so as he would want them. Fisher did not return them at all but left Stotfold on the Tuesday and left the boots in a barn from which they were brought to him. H understands that on the Monday Fisher had offered to sell them. William Cane of Stotfold, miller – on Monday 12 June Fisher came into the mill with a pair of boots on his feet and offered to sell them to Samuel Cocks for 18d, but Cocks did not buy them. They were the boots now produced by James Brown. William Fisher – he put one of the boots on to try them and then asked Brown whether he might put on the other until he had his shoes mended. Brown gave him leave. He offered to sell them, but he was tipsy. When he went to Weston Fair he left them in Master Swain’s barn.
