This Deponent Edgar White on his Oath saith as follows: I am ten years old and live at 41 Stanley Street Luton with my parents. On Saturday 22nd instant I was in Park Square about 4 o’clock. Thorogood was in the Square eating carrots. I knew him. I went across towards him and was running by him when I knocked a carrot out of his hand which he was eating. I felt a blow in my left shoulder after I passed him. Someone took me into Chantler’s the Chemists shop. A doctor came and looked at me. Father came and took me home. I have been in bed till today under the doctors attendance. George Passmore. Physician of Luton on his oath saith as follows: I was called to Chantlers shop. I found a wound from behind over the tenth rib, very little loss of blood. I [strapt?] him after dressing it and sent him home. Next morning I examined him again. The wound was a small one about half an inch deep the knife had struck the rib glanced off and the knife went downwards. The wound was likely to have been produced by the knife produced. The knife is very blunt and very great force must have been used. The rib saved him. There was slight damage only. He is progressing favourably now. The lung was protected by the rib cage. George Johnson of 160 Wellington Street Luton, Labourer, on his oath saith. I work for Mr. [P] on Saturday afternoon last June in Park Square. I saw the boy. Thorogood was on the path. I saw White running, and then saw them together. I saw Thorogood with his arm lifted up with the knife in his hand, he threw the knife and I saw it strike White in the back, and then fall on the ground. Thorogood came up when White stopped and screamed out “I shall die” I collared Thorogood. I told someone to pull White’s shirt up and seeing blood I told them to take him into the Chemists shop. Before they pulled White clothes up Thorogood said “It has not hurt him” Thorogood picked up the knife and I took it from him. Walter Gilbert of Stanley Street Luton on his oath saith: I was engaged on the 22nd instant carrying advertisement boards. I was in Park Square in the afternoon about 4. I saw Thorogood there and White. White came running to me. He fell up against Thorogood by accident and knocked a carrot out of his hand. I saw White run away and I saw Thorogood throw the knife produced at White. It struck White in the back. I took the knife out of his back and threw it on the ground. White said “I think I shall die” two or three times. I pulled up his clothes and when I saw blood I helped him into Chantler’s the chemist shop. White was just upon falling down when I went to his help. PC Kite of the Luton Boro’ Police Force on his oath saith as follows: On Saturday the 22nd about 4 p.m. June informed a boy had been stormed in Park Square. I went to Chantler’s Chemist shop and saw him. I found Thorogood there crying. When I got to him he said “He knocked a carrot out of my hand” I took him to the Police Office and charged him, he made no reply. I then locked him up. The knife was given to me in Chantler’s shop. I produced it also the coat shirts and waistcoat the boy was wearing showing where the knife went through. Statement of Accused William Thorogood “I have nothing to say”
