Ellen Brainford, widow, residing at Luton – she was married about 14 years ago to William Brainford, who was a Scotchman. Her husband died 4 ½ years ago. She had 3 children by him who are now alive – John aged 11, James aged about 9 and William aged about 6. She never did anything to gain any settlement for herself. Charlotte Templeman, widow, residing at Luton – she is aged 59 or thereabouts. In the year 1810 she was married to Robert Templeman at Isleworth (Middx) on 4 June. Her husband died about 17 years ago while they were living in Scotland. About 13 or 14 years ago she went to Isleworth and was in the workhouse. She took her 3 sons with her from Scotland. The overseers of Isleworth had previously allowed her 5s a week for herself and her children and there was some money due to her on that account. She went into the room at the workhouse. They paid her 10 sovereigns and she took the boys back with her to Scotland. They allowed her 3s a week afterwards but as they neglected sending it she returned to Isleworth a year or two later. They then gave her 9 sovereigns and she went back to Scotland. She came to reside at Luton 4 years ago and has lived there ever since. When she first came from Scotland she applied to Mr Nathaniel Harris who was Assistant Overseer for Isleworth who took her to the workhouse with her 3 boys. Mr Emland and Mr Hamborough were the overseers the first time she went. They were in the Board Room when she received the money. Her daughter Ellen Brainford is one of her children by Robert Templeman. She was married to William Brainford in Scotland about a year after she first came from Scotland to Isleworth. She came to live at Luton about 3 years ago last August. When she received relief from Isleworth the first time her daughter was living with her and the relief was given to her to support her family of which Ellen was then part. Her daughter is now dangerously ill and confined to her bed and cannot be moved. Her daughter is now receiving relief from the parish of Luton.
