    Samuel Quenby of Lower Gravenhurst, farmer - on the morning of 27 May he heard from his horse keeper Richard Page that he had lost his chains and a [latch?] wheel from the field, and that he had seen 2 men in the field and one man with a dog cart by the side of the ditch. Page said he looked over the hedge and spoke to them. Suspecting they had taken the things he went in his gig in pursuit of them. When he arrived at Barton he called the police officer to assist him. They went to Sharpenhoe and between there and Harlington they saw the 3 prisoners sitting under a hedge at breakfast with a dog cart close to them. They took the prisoners back to Barton The found the property produced, which he believes to be his, in the dog cart. Richard Page, horse keeper to Samuel Quimby. At 4am he was passing one of his master’s fields where he had been ploughing the day before and had left everything quite safe. He saw two men going into the field where the ploughs were and the other remained in the dog cart. Buckridge and Matthews were the two men in the field. The man with the dog cart asked if he was going haymaking. He went to the stable to feed his horses, then took them to the field to go to plow and found that someone had stolen his master’s chains and wheel. He then went bac and told his master some rogues had been in the field and taken the chains and wheel. The items produced are his master’s. He knows them by the links. Edward Wickham of Barton, police constable - he was called up at 7.30am by Quimby, who gave him a description of the party he suspected. . They found them near Harlington sitting under a hedge at breakfast. He searched the dog cart and found the property produced. The 3 prisoners say they will not give any account of how they came to be in possession of the items.
