- Scope and ContentAnn, wife of Archer Butterfield – she lives with her husband at Biggleswade. Yesterday morning (19 July) Joseph Green came to her house and produced a piece of paper on which was written “Please to lend me 12 shillings of silver and send it by Joseph Green. G Butterfield” which he said came from her son George. She knew the writing was not her son’s so she sent the paper to him to check if he had sent Green. Her son said he had not and said a policeman should be called in. She sent for William Buckland the policeman and told him what had taken place. Buckland went after Green and took him into custody. Joseph Green – he wrote the paper and went with it to Mrs Butterfield. If he had got the money he would have gone to Sandy feast.
