  • Scope and Content
The prisoners have been assembled in the Chapel on Sundays, mornings and afternoon for full Divine Service and each morning in the week for prayers and a short exposition of scripture, in addition to which they meet three times weekly for Bible Class Instruction. The instruction imparted under Warder Wright who actes as schoolmaster and the Matron who acts as schoolmistress is all that can be desired. Total number of those who have passed under my special notice (exclusive of County Court debtors and the recent importation of 107 Military prisoners) is 258 males and 36 females. 101 could neither read nor write, 121 very imperfectly read and the remainder read and write but indifferently, The Industrial Training is carried out with the same energy and enterprise as heretofore. Our prisoners look forward to entering upon this employment after the first three months of their imprisonment has elapsed as a great boon, which in connection with good conduct during their imprisonment is of pecuniary benefit to them n their discharge and invariably lays the foundation for their gaining an honest livelihood.
