  • Scope and Content
Thomas Miles of Luton, woodman – he is foreman to Messrs Langton who have purchased the fall of timber at Luton Park. On 8 June he saw Dunham driving a cart in the park near the New Mill End Lodge. He stopped him and found he had part of the top of an oak tree cut into lengths in his cart. He can swear it was Messrs Langton’s property because it was peeled – all the peeled wood belongs to them. Some of the wood was concealed under some chips. Dunham said he had bought the wood from Mr Broach of New Mill End. Charles Maffey of Luton, police constable – on 8 June Dunham was given into his custody by Thomas Miles along with the pieces of oak wood now produced. James Broach of Luton, innkeeper – on 25 or 26 May he sold Dunham some chips. He did not sell him any pieces of oak wood like those produced.
