John Bricknell and Robert Britton, the two warders most recently appointed have resigned. The Visiting Justices have provisionally appointed John Smith and George Henry Bandy in their places. Ann Stocker, who since the Midsummer Sessions was appointed a female warder in the place of Elizabeth Hart, has given a months notice to quit, which has not yet expired, the Visiting Justices are taking steps to fill up the vacancy. On 1st October Ann Hall, a prisoner committed for trial at Sessions made a violent assault on Sarah Rogers, one of the female wardens; inquiries were made as to her state of mind and she was found to be insane, she has since been removed to Fisherton under a warrant of the Home Secretary. The number of commitments in the past year has been 215 less that in the previous year. Average number maintained during the year 151 as against 169 in the year ending Michaelmas 1869.
