Number committed during last quarter - males 149, females 17, total 166, being a decrease of 79 upon the corresponding quarter of last year. On 2nd November Charles Cook, and on the 22nd December Frederick Roberts and William Bird were removed to the Beds Reformatory and on the 17th November Maria Walker and Hannah Coburn were removed to the Mount Vernon Green Reformatory near Liverpool. On the 23rd Dec Charles Henry Day was removed to the Tiffield Reformatory, Northamptonshire. James Williams, a Middlesex prisoner, being found insane, was removed on the 8th Dec to the Colney Hatch Lunatic Asylum. Lengthy comparisons of the cost of gas to the prison.
