    Express regret at the death of Mr Samuel Wing, who for many years was their Clerk. They have appointed James Pearse, salary £40 per annum. George Poulter has been discharged by Order of the Secretary of State on account of illness. A contract has been entered into for the reception of sixty prisoners from Middlesex. Alterations and new reception cells required by the Government Inspector of Prisons. The Justices having considered the Act 28 & 29 Victoria cap 126 recommend: 1) the adoption as hard labour of the first class of the the following forms of labour: rope beating, oakum picking, mat making with heavy loom, shot drill, crank labour and stone breaking. 2) As hard labour of second class, mat making and hemming, winding plaiting coir, picking oakum and coir, smiths & stokers work, carpentering and turning, plumbing, painting & glazing, bricklayers and other building work, whitewashing, tailoring and shoe making, washing and cooking, sewing and ironing, wood chopping and labour in and about the prison. 3) the employment of prisoners in remnerative labour as far as possible.
