- Scope and ContentSamuel Hornal of Dunstable, police constable – on the night of Monday 21 September about 9.30pm he was in a field occupied by Mr Scroggs. On the opposite side of the road in a field in the parish of Houghton Regis called Fig’s Croft occupied by Richard Howes he saw Bowers. Bowers went into the field through the hedge and returned with an arm full of stubble. He stopped Bowers and took the stubble away from him. Bowers said he knew he had done wrong and wanted him to settle it. He refused and informed Mr Howes who wished him to proceed with the case. Richard Howes of Dunstable, farmer – he has missed a quantity for stubble from a field called Fig’s Croft in Houghton Regis. He never gave Bowers or anyone else leave to take any away.
