Depositions and examination - Geroge Sheffield of Bromham charged with assaulting Thomas King in the execution of his duty.

Thomas King of Bromham, parish constable – on Saturday evening 6 June he heard that a quarrel had arisen between Sheffield and his wife. He went to Bromham Green and found Sheffield stripped to his shirt. Sheffield was making a great noise and disturbance. He told Sheffield his conduct was shameful and disgraceful. Sheffield threatened to knock his head off and struck him on the cheek with his fist. He said he would go home and fetch his handcuffs. He turned to go and Sheffield kicked him on the backside. Sheffield was on the Green when he returned and was very violent. As he put the handcuffs on him Sheffield struck and kicked him again. Thomas Millard of Bromham, labourer – he was on Bromham Green on Saturday evening and saw Sheffield kick Thomas King twice and hit him once. Mary Green of Bromham, singlewoman – last Saturday evening she was on Bromham Green. Sheffield was very violent. She saw him strike Thomas King once and kick him once. Sheffield was not handcuffed at the time. George Sheffield – “King came to me very rash and I struck him on the eye”.
