Scope and Content
Was steward of Leighs from 21 September 1724 till death of Charles Leigh in 1750 and since then has been steward of Lady Barbara and Edward Leigh. The 8½ acres part of prebendal manor; Ashwells have paid 40s per annum from 1724-1766. John Franklin’s predecessor Zacharius Turnpenny told John Franklin that in suit of c.1705 between Charles Leigh and Benjamin Ashwell, the latter had acknowledged that the land was not his freehold.
