    William Russell: on 15 August he missed a bag containing a bit of stuffed pork, an apple pudding and a bit of bread. He left his bag under a hedge in a field about 6am. He missed it about 8am. The bag produced belonged to him. He saw the bag, the pork and the pudding on the road between 8 and 9am on 15 August. Alfred Allen: he saw the prisoner in a wheat field at Wootton on the morning of 15 August. He fetched him out of the wheat. He was lying in the wheat and when he got up to him he found a bundle. He took the prisoner and the bundle to the road. The bundle was untied on the road. He saw it untied and saw the piece of pork and pudding. Russell said the meat was his. He gave them to Sergeant Cheney. Sergeant Cheney: the pork, bag and pudding were delivered to him on 15 August by Alfred Allen. Statement of the accused: he did not put the bag in. It was his bag in the handkerchief. He did not know anything about them.
