    Janet Niven of Biggleswade, spinster – her mother keeps a grocer’s shop. On Saturday September 13 Joseph Dunton of Sandy came into their shop and ordered the following articles for Mrs Gudgin of Langford, saying she would call and pay for them on the following Monday or Tuesday. He took the articles away with him: - 4lb 10oz bacon value 2s 8½d - 2lb sugar value 1s - 2 oz mixed tea value 9d - 1lb 2oz cheese value 9d - 1lb mustard and pepper value 3d - 1lb candles value 11½d - 1lb tobacco value 3d Joseph Gudgin of Langford, farmer – he never authorized Dunton to purchase articles for him. Dunton has not worked for him for more than a year. He is sure Mrs Gudgin did not give Dunton any orders. Joseph Dunton – “I wsa very slack of work at the time and only took the goods to do me good. I confess that I took them.” [Note that Dunton refused to put his mark to this statement. Also noted that as Dunton confessed and Mr Gudgin promised to answer for Mrs Gudgin’s appearance at the sessions he did not think it worthwhile to remand Dunton]
