    Thomas Thurley: a shoemaker of Girtford. John Pacey had been in his employment was to be bound to him as an apprentice. Pacey told him his uncle, John Pacey, wished him to appear respectable when bound and he should procure him a new suit. Thurley accordingly did this and paid for it. He paid upwards of £3 6s expecting the uncle to repay him when they met at Bedford to sign the Indenture. The prisoner had told him his uncle would be there. He went on the day appointed by the prisoner to meet his uncle at the Bear Inn at Bedford. He found he had been deceived and the uncle was not there. He went on to Oakley to see him and learnt from him that the prisoner had no authority for the statement he made. He had given the prisoner a further 18 pence to buy a cap. Sarah Mays: her husband was a tailor and she assisted in his work. She received an order from Mr Thurley on Easter Monday to make up a coat for the prisoner John Pacey. The prisoner came to be measured and stated to her his uncle would pay Mr Thurley for the clothes. Pacey said his uncle had told him he might have them either at Oakley or at Girtford as he pleased. William Hook: a tailor living at Girtford. On Easter Monday he received orders from Mr Thurley to make a waistcoat and trousers for John Pacey. The prisoner came to be measured and said that he must have them that week and he fetched them on the Saturday. Sergeant George Cheney: he apprehended the prisoner at Wootton. Pacey wore the suit of clothes which were later identified by Sarah Mays and William Hook as having been made by them. The prisoner declined to say anything.
